Two people have been arrested in connection with the fatal assault of a man outside his home in Co Cork.

Yesterday the body was discovered of a 44-year-old man who was fatally injured in an assault outside his home in Doneraile, Cork.

He has been named as Barry Daly, a father-of-four from Doneraile, near Mallow in north Cork.

The two people arrested, a man aged in his 20s and the other, aged in his late teens, are currently detained at garda stations in Cork.

A post-mortem examination of Mr Daly's remains is due to get under way.

The house and roadway at Rockview Terrace, where he was found fatally injured in the early hours of yesterday, remained cordoned off overnight, as did a second location in the grounds of Doneraile Park.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to oversee the investigation.

An incident room has been set up in Mallow Garda Station and a family liaison officer has been assigned to Mr Daly's family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and want to hear from anyone who would have been in the village between midnight and 2am yesterday morning to contact them.

They are also appealing for dashcam or mobile phone footage as door-to-door inquiries continue.
