The bodies of two elderly people have been found at a residential property in a rural area near Doolin in north Co Clare.

The bodies were those of an elderly man in his 80s and a woman in her 90s. It is understood their remains were discovered following a welfare check late last night.

The local coroner has been notified but it is understood that foul play is not suspected.

The bodies been removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

Post-mortem examinations will be conducted in due course and the outcome will guide the direction of the garda investigation.
