A man in his 20s is in a serious condition following an assault in Cork overnight.
A garda investigation got under way after the man was found in an unresponsive state on a street in Cork city.
They were alerted to the incident on Winthrop Street in Cork city shortly before 12.30am.
The injured man was taken to Cork University Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination by the Garda Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
In particular, they are appealing to anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the surrounding area of Winthrop Street and Patrick Street between midnight and 1am to make it available to gardaí.
