Three people have been arrested following a criminal damage incident at Shannon Airport in Co Clare this afternoon.
The three women, aged between 20 and 50, breached the airport's perimeter fence and caused criminal damage shortly after 4pm.
It is understood the women poured a "red powder substance" over an Omni Air International Boeing aircraft which was parked at the end of the terminal building.
The plane was transiting through Shannon Airport at the time but was not engaged in any military activity.
Airport security and gardaí responded immediately and the individuals were apprehended by gardaí.
A female garda was overwhelmed as she tried to hold back the protestors.
She was taken to University Hospital Limerick with non-life threatening injuries but is understood to be in a state of shock.
The women are being held at Garda stations in County Clare where they can be detained for up to 24 hours under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act
A spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group confirmed that flight operations at Shannon Airport were unaffected.
Flight operations were suspended for 30 minutes, but the airport's flight schedule was unaffected.
