The body of a man in his 30s has been recovered from the River Lee in Cork city centre.

Emergency services were alerted at around 7pm to a man in difficulty in the water near Pope's Quay.

Gardaí and emergency services initiated a search and rescue operation and his body was recovered just before 9pm.

Gardaí said the local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination to be carried out.
