Tributes have been paid at a county council meeting in Tralee, Co Kerry, to Anila Mucaj who died while out running in the town yesterday.
The woman, a mother of two boys, was one of three runners struck by an SUV on the Canal Road shortly before 10am yesterday.
Mayor of Tralee Mikey Sheehy said Anila's death on a beautiful Sunday morning while out running was "a huge shock" for the town.
The Canal Road area was "a running hub" and he said his thoughts and that of the council members and Tralee community were with Anila's family and friends, Mr Sheehy said.
He also thanked the emergency services who attended the scene.
Councillors individually paid tribute to the well-known woman, who the meeting was told was very involved with other parents in Mercy Mounthawk School.
"Her death is leaving a huge hole in [the] Mercy Mounthawk community," Fine Gael councillor Angie Bailey said.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly said he knew Anila and the two women injured with her and he wished them a speedy recovery.
Anila was an experienced runner involved in ParkRun and was devoted to her husband and two children, the meeting was told.
