A 43-year-old man has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to a young mother at her home in Cork city on Monday.
The man was arrested locally following a search involving members of the Garda Armed Support Unit and Air Unit, and taken to Bridewell Garda Station for questioning.
He was brought before a sitting of Cork District Court where he was charged with assault causing harm to the woman on 10 February at Evergreen Road.
Garda Patrick Houlihan, of Bridewell Garda Station, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution of the man who cannot be named at this time.
Sergeant Gearóid Davis told Judge Mary Dorgan the State had no objection to bail, subject to a number of conditions which were outlined to the defendant through an interpreter.
These include that he signs on daily at his local garda station, abides by a curfew between 11pm and 7am daily - at an address that will be checked by gardaí - and be sober.
He must also stay away from the injured party, have no contact - direct or indirect, or on social media - with her, her family or her friends and stay away from the southside of Cork city, in particular Evergreen Road.
He has to hand over his passport to gardaí this evening and give a sworn commitment that he does not have any alternative form of identification or will make airline bookings.
Judge Dorgan granted an application for bail, subject to his own bond of €5,000, to appear before the district court on 24 April for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
