More than 200 pupils and around a dozen teachers have been evacuated from a primary school in Co Kerry following an electrical fire at lunchtime.

The fire broke out in a fuse box at Scoil Náisiúnta an Chuileannaigh in Beaufort at 12.55pm this afternoon.

The school's fire evacuation plan was implemented and the pupils and teachers were moved to an outside astroturf pitch to the rear of the school.

A staff member brought the fire under control using a fire extinguisher, before fire brigade units from Killarney and Killorglin arrived.

More than 200 pupils were evacuated due to the electrical fire

The fire was subsequently extinguished.

National Ambulance Service personnel and gardaí also attended the scene.

There were no injuries, and a spokesperson for the school said everyone is safe.
