A number of schools across Limerick are shut as snow and icy conditions also caused travel disruption and some medical clinic cancellations.
The cold snap comes as the country attempts to get back to work and business after the Christmas break.
A road traffic incident, which closed the main N20 Limerick Cork road last night has been cleared, as has an early morning collision on the M8 Dublin Cork route at Fethard in Co Tipperary.
A number of schools in Limerick have delayed reopening because of the weather conditions.
CBS Sexton Street secondary school in Limerick city is closed, as is Laurel Hill, St Clements and The Model School all in Limerick city have delayed reopening.
Many of the schools in Newcastlewest, which was badly hit with heavy snow, will also stay closed as will Ballybrown NS and Salesian secondary school in Pallaskenry.
Ennis Community College announced last night it would reopen at the later time of 9.30am.
Some outpatient clinics across Limerick, Ennis and Nenagh have been cancelled, including dental, orthodontic and audiology clinics because of staff having difficulties getting to work, but HSE Mid West is appealing to people who have designated appointments today to ring ahead to make sure the clinic is going ahead.
They will be rescheduled later this week when the weather improves and it is safe for people to travel.
Power outages are also impacting people in Abbeyfeale, Newcastlewest, Foynes, Dromcolliher in Co Limerick, and in Sixmilebridge and Newmarket On Fergus in Co Clare.
In some cases it may be tomorrow before power can be restored, according to the ESB.
This is also affecting water supplies also in Abbeyfeale, Patrickswell, Adare in Co Limerick and Meelick and Ballycasey in Co Clare.
Meanwhile, there has been a slight thaw in the Limerick city area, but roads in Co Limerick stretching along the N21 from Patrickswell, through Adare to Newcastlewest and Abbeyfeale as well as roads around Kilmallock and Ballingarry in the eastern part of the county remain in a very poor condition with ice and snow remaining in many parts.
