Woman dies after Limerick hit-and-run incident

A woman in her 20s has died after being struck by a van in a hit-and-run incident in Rathkeale, Co Limerick.

She had been transported to University Hospital Limerick in a critical condition but later died from her injuries.

The incident occurred outside a house on the narrow road at Bank Place in Rathkeale at around 12.15pm.

The woman was standing beside large gates attached to a house on the street when she was struck by a silver Ford Transit van.

Gardaí said the van failed to remain at the scene of the incident while the driver failed to offer assistance to the injured woman.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were in the area between 11:30am and 1:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí," they said in a statement.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Rathkeale Garda Station on 069 63222, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
