A collision between a car and bus in Co Limerick yesterday has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission.

A woman was airlifted to Cork University Hospital following the incident on the R513 near Ballylanders.

There were 23 young people on the bus. Gardaí say all were medically assessed at the scene and none required hospital treatment.

In a statement, gardaí said a referral had been made under Section 102 of the Garda Síochána Act to GSOC in relation to the incident.

An Garda Síochána said it cannot make any further comment and any further inquiries should be directed to GSOC.

Emergency personnel - including a number of ambulances, gardaí, fire personnel from nearby Kilmallock and north Cork, - responded to the incident shortly before 3pm.

The scene of the crash, just beyond Garryspillane, was closed while garda forensic collision investigators carried out an examination.
