A 24-year-old man has appeared before Cork District Court charged with assault causing harm of a man outside a café on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork city on Friday.

Aaron Bohane, with an address at St Vincent's Hostel in Cork, was arrested yesterday morning.

Garda Joe Crowley told the court that Mr Bohane made no reply when he was subsequently charged with two offences.

The accused was charged with assault causing harm, and also with producing a bladed object.

Defence barrister Elaine Audley said that there was no application for bail, however, Mr Bohane is reserving his position in relation to his bail application.

Free legal aid was granted and Judge Philip O'Leary remanded Mr Bohane in custody to appear before Cork District Court on Wednesday by video link.

The injured man was treated at Cork University Hospital and has since been discharged.
