Senior Vatican officials to attend Co Clare consecration

Two of the Vatican's most senior officials will be attendees at the consecration of Monsignor Séamus Horgan as Papal Nuncio to South Sudan in Co Clare this weekend.

The Diocese of Killaloe has confirmed that the ceremony which will take place at Ennis Cathedral, will be attended by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and the Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.

Apostolic Nuncio to the United States Cardinal, Christophe Pierre and the Papal Nuncio to Ireland Archbishop, Luis Mariano Montemayor will also be in attendance.

Pope Francis announced the appointment of Ennis-native Monsignor Séamus Horgan as Papal Nuncio to South Sudan in May.

He is currently First Counsellor at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington DC and has previously held Diplomatic Service of the Holy See roles in Uganda, Switzerland, the Philippines and Italy.
