A man in his 20s who was arrested after the death of another man in Co Kerry on Monday, has been released without charge.

Gerard Kennelly, 44, died after being injured in a stabbing in the village of Knockanure near Listowel.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Yesterday, 35-year-old Kieran Brady, of Athea in Co Limerick, appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of Mr Kennelly.

Bail was opposed by the State on a number of grounds including the seriousness of the charge, the likelihood of a custodial sentence if convicted and the possibility of the accused being a flight risk.

The accused was remanded in custody to appear before Killarney District Court on 4 June.

He was granted legal aid, and the court heard Mr Brady would be appealing the bail refusal decision to the High Court.
