A decision to fix a date for the trial of four gardaí and a retired superintendent accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice has been adjourned at Limerick Circuit Court.
The five accused are former garda superintendent Eamon O'Neill, Sergeants Anne Marie Hassett and Michelle Leahy, as well as gardaiíColm Geary and Tom McGlinchy.
The charges against them follow a lengthy investigation by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation alleging they attempted to pervert the course of justice on a number of dates between January 2018 and September 2019, in relation to fixed charge penalty notices involving speeding, the use of mobile phones while driving, the non-wearing of seat belts and driving without insurance.
The cases involving the five individuals have been adjourned to a callover list on 29 July next, which will set up trial dates for the autumn court term.
The court heard at a previous hearing that the trial would take up to eight weeks.
The court was told that an outstanding matter in relation to the case is due to be heard in the court of appeal on 4 July next.
Judge Tom O’Donnell adjourned the cases to that date for a decision on when a trial may proceed.
