A serving member of the Defence Forces has been arrested after a quantity of drugs and cash were discovered at Collins Barracks in Cork city yesterday.

In a statement, a Defence Forces spokesperson said that following an investigation, which was led by the Military Police, a search at the barracks was carried out "in collaboration with An Garda Siochana".

Drugs and cash were discovered and a member of the Defence Forces was arrested.

A Defence Forces vehicle was also seized and is being examined by gardaí.

The spokesperson said the investigation is now being led by gardaí, with assistance from the Military Police.
