A murder investigation is under way following the discovery of the body of an elderly man at his home near Castlemaine in Co Kerry.
A man in his 60s was arrested just before midday yesterday on suspicion of murder involving the use of a firearm.
He is being held under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held up to seven days.
The man has been named locally as 84-year-old Paddy O'Mahony.
Gardaí were called to the area on Sunday after the alarm was raised and the house was immediately sealed off.
Mr O'Mahony was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kerry County Councillor Michael O'Shea said the local community was shocked by the discovery.
"This is a place where everybody looks out for everybody else," he said.
"They are a very strong family in our community, very involved in community activities.
"They are great people. It is so sad that this man lost his life and we are all devastated at this news, and we offer all our support to them at this time."
Parish priest for Castlemaine, Fr Danny Broderick, said: "We are thinking first of all of the poor man who died.
"We think immediately then of his family, his immediate family, and how they must be feeling at this time with the loss of their dad under tragic circumstances and we are thinking of course too of the whole community.
"There is a beautiful community here in Castlemaine. They are all very supportive and helpful to one another so that we know they are going to rally around now to be with the family."
