A 41-year-old woman, who is charged with obtaining a false passport for a child, is to be sent forward for trial at the current sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court in Cork.

The woman cannot be identified because there are children involved whose identities are protected under the Children's Act.

Garda Sergeant Pat Lyons told Judge Mary Dorgan at Cork District Court today that the Book of Evidence in this case has been served and that the State's application is to have the case sent forward to the current sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court.

Sgt Lyons said the woman faces four charges.

These include providing false information at the Civil Registration Office in Cork on 29 July 2009 regarding a claim that a named man was the biological father of her son; providing false information in relation to a passport application at Watercourse Road Garda Station on 29 July 2009, and 12 May 2017, and at Anglesea Street on 30 June 2012.

An application for free legal aid was made by solicitor Frank Buttimer who handed a Statement of Means into the court.

"My client has significant outgoings, judge", Mr Buttimer said.

Judge Mary Dorgan noted the contents and said because of the seriousness of the charges said she would grant his application for free legal aid and a counsel.

Judge Dorgan ordered the case be sent forward for trial to the current sitting of the Circuit Criminal Court on 23 February.

The woman is on bail on her own bond of €400.
