Appeal after man injured in Cork shooting

A man in his 40s is being treated in hospital after he was shot in Cork earlier this morning.

The man presented himself at Cork University Hospital at around 5am with a gunshot wound.

His condition is described as stable.

The shooting happened in the Wilton area of the city, and an area close to a block of apartments has been sealed off by gardaí for a technical and forensic examination.

Road users with camera footage are asked to make this available to gardaí

A motive for the shooting has not yet been established. Gardai have set up an incident room at Togher Garda Station and investigating gardaí have already held a case conference there this morning.

They are appealing to anyone who was in the Wilton area between 5am and 5.45am, who may have noticed anything unusual to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Road users with camera footage (including dashcam) are asked to make this available to gardaí.
