Gardaí are appealing to the public and in particular to those working at building and agricultural material providers, who may have been victims of credit card fraud, to come forward.

It follows a number of reports of such incidents around the country in recent months.

Gardaí have now set up an incident room in Thurles Garda Station.

This appeal comes as gardaí are investigating multiple reports across 14 counties of people calling to retail premises and providing fraudulent credit card details.

Credit cards are presented to purchase building and agricultural goods. Once transactions are authorised, those goods are taken away.

Only later is it discovered the credit card details are fraudulent.

Gardaí say fraudsters mostly targeted hardware stores, builders providers and agricultural cooperative stores.

They are now appealing for fraud victims to come forward, and have set up incident room in Thurles Garda Station with a senior officer appointed to oversee the investigation.
