Gardaí have made a second arrest in relation to a serious assault which left a man critically injured in Co Cork last Wednesday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested earlier today and is being held at Togher Garda Station in Cork.

This follows an incident at the Glenwood estate in Carrigaline on Wednesday evening when a 29-year-old man was assaulted.

He remains in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital having undergone emergency surgery for a serious injury on Wednesday night.

Gardaí investigating the incident are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward and want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Glenwood between 5pm and 5.45pm on Wednesday evening, including anyone who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage.

A 19-year-old man arrested on Wednesday night has already been charged with assault causing harm and appeared before Mallow District Court yesterday. He is due before Cork District Court next Thursday.
