Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information about the murder of 39-year-old Sean Poland in Co Clare 20 years ago.

Mr Poland died at his home in Blackwater in Ardnacrusha on 31 December, 2002.

He and his partner had left the Round House Pub on High Street in Limerick just after 11pm and returned home.

When Mr Poland answered a call to the door, four masked and armed raiders made their way into the house.

Two of the raiders ordered Mr Poland's partner to kneel on the floor in the living room and tied her hands together. She said she heard a shot coming from the hallway.

The raiders stole a sum of money from her handbag and fled the house.

Mr Poland's partner found him in the hallway with a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was not breathing.

Ahead of the twentieth anniversary of Mr Poland's death tomorrow, gardaí have renewed their appeal for information.

They say that with the passage of time, a number of people that have yet to come forward may now be in a position to do so.
