A woman in her 70s is recovering in hospital after she received multiple injuries in a 30 metre fall on Cnoc na Toinne in the MacGillycuddy's Reeks in Co Kerry.

She was rescued by members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team after the alarm was raised at 4pm yesterday.

She was treated at the scene by team members and a haul system was set up to bring her by stretcher to a safe location on the ridge above.

The woman was airlifted by the Coast Guard helicopter from Shannon and brought to University Hospital Limerick for further treatment for her injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening.

The rescue operation involved 18 members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team and took six hours to complete.
