Hundreds of tributes have been paid to the Bus Éireann driver and a local priest who lost their lives in a road traffic collision at Monkstown village in Cork harbour on Tuesday.

The driver, who has been named locally as 51-year-old Mark Wills, from Ballincollig, suffered a suspected heart attack.

The bus he was driving went out of control on Strand Road in Monkstown village at 1.35pm, collided with a number of parked cars and struck a pedestrian, 72-year-old Fr. Con Cronin, a local curate.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr. Wills was based at the Capwell Bus Station in Cork and was a very popular and well-known driver on the 216 city commuter route from Monkstown to Cork University Hospital.

Among the many tributes paid on RIP.ie was one from the O'Riordan family who offered their sincere condolences to his family and friends.

"Such a kind and patient man who made such a difference to the day of everyone he met on his route. His smiling face will be sorely missed every morning."

The married father of two is to be buried following Requiem Mass at 11am on Saturday.

Arrangements for Fr. Con Cronin, who was 72, and originally from Borlin in Bantry are being finalised.

Fr. Con Cronin, who retired to work in the Harbour Parishes after 25 years on the missions in Nigeria, was a much loved member of the local community.

On RIP.ie parishioner Dan O'Connell from Glenbrook said "Fr Con had an aura and presence about him that had a deep impression on all those who knew and met him. He leaves a wonderful lasting legacy to his harbour parishioners and the wider world".

His online videos of interviews with local people were especially popular.

Several hundred people attended a special vigil for both men on the evening of the tragedy.
