A woman who was seriously injured in an alleged assault in Co Clare last month has died in hospital.
The woman received a number of injuries in an incident in the market area of Ennis on the evening of 21 January.
She died in hospital last night.
A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since appeared in court charged with assault causing harm to the woman.
A post-mortem examination will now be carried out on the woman to establish the exact cause of death.
Gardaí will review their investigation once they receive the results of the post-mortem examination, which will determine the course of their inquiries.
