A post-mortem examination is to be carried out on the body of a man aged in his 60s who was found in Limerick city last night.

The man had been sleeping rough in the city centre area, and was found in a laneway off Little Catherine Street.

Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating his death, but its understood there do not believe the circumstances are suspicious.

He had been known to homeless services in Limerick.

His body has been taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination, and a report on all the circumstances of his death will be prepared for the coroner's court.
