People were found playing cards in the suspected 'shebeen'

A suspected 'shebeen' was searched by gardaí in Co Limerick yesterday.

During routine patrols at around 4pm in Rathkeale, gardaí were alerted to activity at the rear of a former pub.

A number of people were seen leaving the area on foot through a house.

When gardaí entered the 'shebeen' a number of people were found inside, playing cards with two fires lit. A large amount of alcohol was also discovered.

Gardaí said the premises is not currently licensed to sell alcohol.

An investigation is under way into the use of an unlicensed premises for alcohol consumption and breaches of Covid-19 public health regulations.

Gardaí took details of all those present and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
