More than €120,000 worth of suspected illegal drugs has been seized by gardaí across Co Cork in a number of different search operations since Friday evening.

Gardaí from the Mallow and Mayfield district drugs units carried out a number of searches in separate locations yesterday.

Those searches yielded cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €70,000, cocaine with an estimated value of €10,000, and €22,000 in cash.

A 40-year-old man was arrested and brought to Mallow Garda Station for questioning under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.


 

A separate intelligence-led operation into the sale and supply of drugs in Cork city yesterday led to the seizure of heroin worth €17,500.

Gardaí from the city's drugs unit were joined by members from the Mayfield district drug unit on an operation on Lower Glanmire Road.

A man in his 30s was stopped under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.

The man was arrested after the drugs were found and brought to Mayfield Garda Station for questioning.

Earlier, more than €27,000 worth of drugs were found at a grow house in west Cork on Friday evening.

Gardaí from the West Cork divisional drugs unit, assisted by the Southern Region dog unit, executed a search warrant at a house outside the town of Dunmanway.

During the course of the search the Garda dog Rex "indicated to his handler that there was something in the attic that warranted further inspection," according to a spokesperson.

The gardaí found a grow house in the attic containing €16,800 worth of suspected cannabis plants at various stages of growth, €10,500 of suspected cannabis herb and €175 worth of suspected ecstasy.

They also seized fans, lights and a ventilation system.

This was the third grow house to be found in west Cork in the space of 10 days.
