Two people have died following a collision between a car and a bicycle in Limerick.

Gardaí say the driver of the car and the cyclist, both males, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred on Hyde Road at around 12.15am.

Their ages have not yet been confirmed.

A teenage boy who was a passenger in the car was taken to University Hospital Limerick with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The road remains closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
