The 17-year-old boy stabbed a number of times during an incident in Carrigaline, Co Cork, last night has been released from hospital.
Another 17-year-old, arrested for questioning in relation to the attack, remains in garda custody.
His period of detention has been extended twice.
Detectives have been taking statements from witnesses, while CCTV footage is also being gathered and analysed.
The incident happened at the Waterpark estate in Carrigaline at around 10.30pm last night.
