Man dies after farm accident in Co Cork

A man has died following an accident on a farm at Ballinhassig, Co Cork.

The man, who was in his early 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood the incident involved a bull on the farm and happened at around 6pm.

A post mortem examination on the man's body will be conducted later at Cork University Hospital.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are beginning investigations into the man's death. 

A file will be prepared for the local coroner for an inquest at a later date.

It is understood that the man was well known in farming circles and in the West Cork area.
