An inquest in Cork has been told that a two-year-old girl, who was found unconscious at an apartment in the city in July, died from multiple injuries.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster told the Coroner's Court in Cork that Santina Cawley died of a traumatic brain injury, an upper cervical cord injury, together with polytrauma due to blunt force injury and a fracture to long bones.

Santina was found by members of the emergency services after they were called to an apartment  at Elderwood Park, Boreenmanna Road, on 5 July.

She died later in hospital.

Garda Inspector Conor Dillon told the court that a file was sent to the DPP resulting in a person being charged before the courts and he was seeking an indefinite adjournment pending the outcome of these proceedings.

The application for the adjournment was granted by Coroner Philip Comyn who said a death certificate will issue in five working days.
