A woman in her 20s has been killed in a road crash involving an SUV and a car in Co Kerry.

Gardaí are attending the scene of the collision, which happened at around 8am today on the N21 at Meenleitrim, Castleisland.

The woman was the only person in the car, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was taken to University Hospital Kerry with non-life threatening injuries.

The scene at the crash site is preserved for examination by garda forensic collision investigators, and the local coroner has been notified. 

The road was closed for a technical examination but has since reopened.

Gardaí at Tralee are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, particularly any motorists who were travelling in the area at the time and may have dash cam footage.
