The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that a prosecution be taken against an individual arising out of the death of a County Cork teenager who died on New Year's Day.
Róisín Mae O'Donovan, 16, from Ivy Circle, Muskerry Estate in Ballincollig, in Co. Cork died in hospital after she was struck by a car as she crossed the road near the Tesco supermarket in the town at 7.45pm on 31 December 2018.
Cork Coroner's Court was told today that the DPP has now directed that a prosecution be taken arising out of the death.
An application to adjourn the inquest into the death of the transition year student - without a fixed date - pending the conclusion of the criminal proceedings, was granted by Coroner Philip Comyn.
Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster previously told the court that the young girl, a student at Ballincollig Community School, died from a brain injury following a road traffic collision.
