An 18-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a fisherman in Co Waterford last year.
Dean Kerrie, with an address at Portarlington in Co Laois, was arrested in Portarlington this afternoon and brought before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening, charged with the murder of Jack Power.
Mr Power, 25, died in hospital after being stabbed during an incident at the Shanakiel estate in Dunmore East on 26 July last.
He was from the Brownstown area near Tramore.
Detective Sergeant Donal O'Donoghue told the court the accused made no reply to the charge this evening.
Solicitor Hilary Delahunty applied for free legal aid, pointing out that his client was just two days past his 18th birthday and would not be in a position to discharge legal fees when in custody.
He was remanded in custody by Judge Kevin Staunton and will appear again before the court next Tuesday.
The judge ordered that the accused should receive any appropriate medical attention while in custody.
