The inquest into the death of a young musician heard he died from serious head injuries in a Cork hospital after an assault in Waterford city centre a week earlier in July 2018.
28-year-old Damien O'Brien, who was a keyboard player with Waterford band, Chimpanbee, died at Cork University Hospital on 13 July, 2018 having been transferred there from University Hospital Waterford.
Mr O'Brien, who was from Fahee, Kilmacow, Co Kilkenny suffered serious head injuries when he was assaulted at the junction of John Street and the Manor in Waterford city centre on 7 July.
At the inquest into his death today at the Cork City Coroner's Court, Assistant State Pathologist Dr Linda Mulligan told Coroner Philip Comyn that the cause of death was brain stem haemorrhage due to cerebral oedema and traumatic brain injury due to blunt force trauma to the head.
Garda Inspector Conor Dillon applied to have the inquest adjourned pending the conclusion of criminal proceedings due to finish in May.
Mr Comyn granted the application and adjourned the matter for mention until 26 September.
