A man has died in a workplace incident in west Cork.

The man, who was in his mid-50s, was working at a timber yard near Bandon when the incident occurred at around 8.30pm this morning.

It is understood he was involved in a collision with a telescopic handler.

The Health and Safety Authority is to conduct an investigation into the death.

Health Service Executive inspectors are travelling to the scene, which has been sealed off by gardaí.

A garda technical examination will also take place at the site.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted at Cork University Hospital.
