A man in his 20s has died in a collision between a truck and a car in Co Limerick.

The incident happened on the N21 at Templeglantine, between Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale, at around 10.10am.

The 27-year-old was treated by emergency service personnel but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His body has been taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

It is understood he was the only person in his car at the time. The driver of the lorry, a man in his 70s, was not injured in the collision.

The N21 is the main route between Limerick and Tralee.

Garda technical investigators are at  the scene and local traffic diversions are in place.
