A Kerry farmer has urged others who are experiencing depression to speak out rather than suffer in silence, in a video posted to social media.

The Facebook post by 30-year-old Eoghan Ó Conchubhair documented his personal experience with the illness, and has amassed almost 30,000 views.

The father-of-one from Ballydavid, Co Kerry, said the fodder crisis has had a particularly detrimental effect on small farmers in rural areas.

He encountered depression for the first time last year, and said he stayed silent for six months on his struggle until he decided to post a video, giving an intensely personal account of his experience.

The newly-married farmer is urging others to speak out rather than suffer in silence.
