The eco boardwalk in Youghal is to be extended from Claycastle to Redbarn following confirmation of €500,000 in funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The wooden coastal walking route currently runs from Youghal town centre to Redbarn.

It is to be extended to Claycastle alongside the dunes and reed beds of Ballyvergan Marsh.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Phase 1 of the project opened in 2012.

Since then, it has attracted huge numbers on a daily basis to the beach throughout the year, delivering a significant tourism and economic boost to the local economy.
