A man in his 60s has been arrested after a 58-year-old man died following a shooting at a farmhouse at Raleigh near Macroom in Co Cork.
He is being questioned at Bandon Garda Station.
The incident happened at 11.30pm last night.
The victim has been named as 58-year-old agricultural contractor Derry Coakley, of Castle Street, Macroom.
It is understood he rang a friend following the shooting who contacted gardaí after he found Mr Coakley with a gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination is to take place tomorrow at Cork University Hospital.
One line of inquiry being followed by gardaí is that he was shot while operating his tractor and the shooting may be linked to his disposal of waste material in the Raleigh area.
Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information or who may have been in the Raleigh North area between 10.30pm and 12am to contact Macroom Garda Station on 026 20590, the Garda Confidential line in 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
