A cyclist is in a critical condition in hospital after she collided with another cyclist outside Bandon in west Cork this morning.
The collision happened at Gurteen Cross, around 4km outside the town just before 9am.
The woman, who is in her 40s, is understood to have received serious head injuries in the collision and was rushed to Cork University Hospital.
The woman was treated at the scene by a pre-hospital emergency medicine and critical care retrieval physician, as well as an advanced paramedic and paramedic team from the National Ambulance Service.
The man with whom she collided with was also taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Gardaí are to conduct a forensic road crash investigation at the area where the collision occurred.
The road between Gurteen Cross and Baxter’s Bridge will be closed for a number of hours.
