The people of Kilmeaden, Co Waterford, have been praised for their fundraising efforts and for the welcome home they gave father-and-son Arthur and Jordan Curry who took part in a 3,000km charity cycle from Ireland to Rome in aid of Waterford Hospice.
Arthur and 17-year-old Jordan, both of whom are novice cyclists, were motivated to take the journey following the death from cancer last year of Arthur’s mother, who had wanted to visit Rome before she died.
The journey took them about a month to complete, travelling from Rosslare to England, across to France and then through Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and into Italy and their final destination of Rome.
Close to €10,000 has already been raised and the fundraising continues with various events being held locally.
All monies raised are going to Waterford Hospice on the grounds of University Hospital Waterford.
