Gardaí in Waterford have arrested a 25-year-old local man in relation to an assault on John Street in the city in the early hours of Saturday morning.
He is currently being questioned at Waterford Garda Station.
The man who was injured in the assault was brought to University Hospital Waterford initially but then transferred to Cork. It is understood he sustained head and other injuries in the assault.
His condition is described as serious but stable.
