Limerick packaging company Rigid Containers, which produces high end corrugated sustainable packaging and employs 95 people, is planning to expand its workforce by 30 over the next two years.
The increase in employment at the company follows an €8m expansion of the firm's production facilities located at the Galvone Business Park in Southill, Limerick.
The expansion sees the addition of two extensions to the plant to accommodate a new materials handling system, new ancillary equipment as well as office and meeting rooms.
Rigid Containers was bought three years ago by the international company VPK Packaging - one of the biggest independent manufacturers in Europe of recycled paper and corrugated cases.
It has an annual turnover of €800m.
The plant in Limerick has grown over the past two years. It concentrates on tailor made specific packaging for customers across the world.
It produces corrugated packaging for industry, consumer goods, food and beverages, and the pharma and medical industries.
The company praised the workforce of 95, many who have worked with them for over 20 years, and their representatives SIPTU and TEEU, with whom they negotiated a four year pay deal allowing them to address key business challenges.
Now the company is planning to introduce a third shift at the plant which will increase employee numbers by up to 30 over the next two years.
Mark Munnelly, Rigid Containers' site director, said the company had grown their production volume by 30% over the past three years through investment in manufacturing technologies and facilities, and have now established itself as a centre of excellence for quality through flexibility and operational excellence.
