A man in his late 30s has died following a collision between a van and a tractor in Co Cork.

Two teenagers, the man's 14-year-old daughter and a 17-year-old boy, who is a family friend, were injured in the crash.

The teenagers have been airlifted to Cork University Hospital. One of them is believed to be in a critical condition and the other is in a serious condition.

The crash happened on the R522 regional road at Ballincurrig, between Buttevant and Liscarroll in north Cork at around 1pm.

The man has been named as Patrick McMahon from Churchtown in north Co Cork.

Both teenagers were passengers in the van which Mr McMahon was driving.

The partner of the man driving the van was travelling behind when the incident occurred and witnessed the crash.

The driver of the tractor was uninjured in the incident.


An Air Corps air ambulance helicopter and crew joined gardaí, the fire service and ambulance paramedics at the scene.

The R522 between Buttevant and Liscaroll is likely to remain closed for several hours.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses following the crash.
