The body of a man has been removed from Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry.

It is understood that the Canadian tourist fell more than 100m.

His fiancée, who was walking with him, raised the alarm at around 3pm yesterday.

Valentia Coastguard co-ordinated the operation by Kerry Mountain Rescue in the Hag's Glen/Brother O'Shea's Gully area of the mountain.

Around two dozen members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team participated in the search. Conditions at the time were poor, with fog and low cloud hampering visibility.

The dead man is believed to have been in his late 20s or early 30s and had been holidaying in Kerry with his partner.

His body was located at around 9pm last night and recovered from the mountain at around 1am.

His partner was walked off the mountain by members of the mountain rescue team.

A post-mortem examination was due to be conducted on the man's body at University Hospital Kerry.
