Man dies following mini-digger incident in Co Clare

A 71-year-old man has died following an incident when he was working on a mini-digger in a yard near his home in Co Clare.

Gardai were alerted to the accident in the early hours of this morning.

The man, a retired builder, was found fatally injured at Maherabawn near Feakle.

It is understood he was carrying out maintenance work on the machine in a yard near his home from about 5pm yesterday.

The machine is believed to have fallen on him.

He was found at around 1.45am by gardaí.

An inspector from the Health and Safety Authority has visited the scene of the accident and is carrying out an investigation.

The man’s body has been taken to University Hospital Limerick for a post-mortem examination.
