Two fishermen were rescued after they had to abandon their sinking fishing vessel off the coast of Co Kerry.

The men entered a life raft when the vessel started taking on water in the Derrynane/Sneem area.

A may day call was sent at 12.25pm, and the Shannon R115 Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

The men were safely recovered two miles south off Scariff Island.

Community Rescue Boats from Castletownbere, Derrynane and Ballinskellig took part in the rescue operation.

A number of local fishing vessels also responded to the incident.
