The crew of the LÉ Eithne are among more than a dozen individuals and groups being honoured by the mayor of county Cork later today.

The LÉ Eithne returned to Cork last July following a 60-day humanitarian deployment in the Mediterranean.

During the deployment the crew of 72 took part in a number of rescue operations involving migrants attempting to travel from north Africa to Europe.

Golfer Mairead Martin from Kanturk, who won the Irish Girls Close Championships, and 2016 Laurance Oliver Award winner, actor Pat Kinevane, from Cobh, are also among those who will be honoured today.

Tonight's reception is being held at County Hall and is hosted by Mayor of County Cork Councillor Declan Hurley.
